When deciding on a place to stay for our friends’ wedding on the beautiful island of Kos, we realised there were so many Kos hotels to choose from. They all promise luxury, great locations and relaxing atmospheres – but only one came out on top for our requirements. The 5* Diamond Deluxe Hotel on Lambi beach.
A little luxury goes a long way, and we felt like we’d landed in the Chanel of Kos hotels – but a pretty quirky Chanel. With rumours floating around of a Paralympian guest too, it seemed the Kos hotels along this side of the coast were some of the best on the island.
The rooms and the décor
Arriving after an uneventful Ryan Air flight (yes, really!), the hotel surroundings were the ideal kind of peace for someone adjusting after a long journey. I tried to overcome my blocked ear from the flight while quiet water features trickled in the background. The use of glass and marble throughout the hotel, from reception to the outside ‘floating’ bar, also made me feel light and mindful the moment I stepped through the doors. The décor doesn’t stop at ‘tranquil’ either. It moves on into an eccentricity, from life size bright red bulldog and white horse ornaments to bicycles painted rustic white and hung from the ceiling above the restaurant.
The rooms are spacious, with modern and clean décor while still maintaining a homely feel (largely due to the huge hydro bathtub found in the bathroom!). We spent a good few minutes laughing at and taking pictures of the lounge robes left on the bed.
Complete with sofa, armchair, large bed, fridge, desk with computer, and luxurious bathroom – the rooms at Diamond Deluxe also have their own patios with furniture so guests can catch a few rays just outside their rooms. One thing that was disappointing about the rooms was the lack of Wi-Fi. There was a perfectly good computer/TV screen to use, but the connection was annoyingly slow. Since the patio was such a great addition, I’d have liked to sit outside with my laptop and get some inspiration from the sun. There is Wi-Fi access at the bar however, but I can’t be the only one who enjoys working in their pajamas!
Facing a beach over the road has to be one of life’s greatest pleasures. The Diamond Deluxe and other Kos hotels have just this, including private loungers and parasols for guests, and free bicycles to take a leisurely ride up to Kos Town. Enjoying the hotel’s own loungers means the beach isn’t too crowded and guests are free to wander along the waves without the concern of losing your spot.
Within the hotel, the spa on the lower floor is on hand to help you get over the stress of being on holiday (I jest!) and the choice of two restaurants means you can decide to indulge in classic Greek cuisine on the ground floor or Italian food on the floor above. Here’s a little tip – if you opt for Greek, sometimes you get a complimentary shot of Ouzo on arrival. Who can argue with that?
There’s also a mini-market to stock up on ‘essentials’ or anything you forgot to bring. Since we flew onto the island with just hand luggage, we were glad to find the shop sold deodorant and moisturiser that we weren’t allowed in the cabin. In true Greek form, the mart also stocks a wealthy supply of alcohol.
The Diamond Deluxe is home to one of the biggest swimming pools I have ever seen. It creeps round to each apartment block and has so many loungers it was hard to decide where to sit. Lying back with a good book, it was really relaxing to watch people float calmly around on lilos, occasionally lifting their heads to check for collisions.
While the lack of in-room Wi-Fi left this guest disappointed, I was really impressed with the ‘living room’ style waiting area for guests preparing for evening flights home. Equipped with a large sofa, magazines, and plug sockets for phone chargers, the downstairs waiting room also has showers, changing facilities, towels and toiletries. This meant that guests who had spent the day on the beach after checking out could de-sand themselves and change into comfy clothes for the flight home. It really is the little things that make hotels feel so lovely.
The majority of Kos hotels have a great location because the island is so small, but here are the reasons why I thought the Diamond Deluxe location was a cut above the rest.
- It’s right on the coast, so the beach is literally outside your window
- This also means that in some apartments you can see the coast of Bodrum, Turkey from your window too!
- Thanks to the free bike rental, the hotel is in the ideal place to get to Kos Town via the cycle paths
- You’re away from the late-night bustle of Kos Town and next to a fairly quiet main road, so a quiet night’s sleep is a sure thing
Stay at the Diamond Deluxe Kos hotel
Our quick visit to Kos Island meant we only got to stay at the 5* Diamond Deluxe for two nights. Head over to their offers page to see if any packages take your fancy.
