Aruba: my perfect romantic getaway

Usually it’s all about cities for me (else this blog would have been called This Beach Life…wait, that’s not such a bad idea!) But every now and then I love to run away to the ocean, which is why I’ve created a new category on this blog – Escape to the Beach. It’s where I’ll put all my fun in the sun posts, like this one!

One of my favourite beach retreats in the world is Aruba. I won (I know…) a two-week break there a few years ago and it was honestly one of the best holidays I’ve ever been on. Aruba is known as ‘One Happy Island’ and it couldn’t be more true. It’s also a really lovely honeymoon or anniversary destination, so here’s why I think Aruba is the perfect romantic getaway.

The flippin’ gorgeous beaches

You seriously can’t get a view better than this – look at it! I’d never seen a proper sandy beach like that before so I must have spent at least 3 hours on our first day there just scrunching my feet in the sand and snapping some ‘look at the ocean!’ photographs. When the sun goes down, Aruba’s beaches get even more gorgeous too. Hotels and restaurants light candles and the waves just sound so relaxing in the evening. To add a bit of romance, dinner on the beach under a canopy is a surefire winner. Or there’s dinner in bed at The Screaming Eagle – it’s actually indescribable, it has to be experienced!

People keep coming back

You really fall in love with Aruba, which makes spending your time there with someone special even nicer. There were so many couples enjoying the island while we were there and almost everyone we met were on their third or forth visit. One couple at our hotel told us they keep going back year after year, and at The Bucuti it’s so common for their guests to celebrate anniversaries. I seriously can’t wait for my next chance to visit.

Lots of things to do with your other half

If you’re like me and want to be up and about instead of spending too much time sunbathing (I still got burnt though, oops), then Aruba is great for activities. Spend some time with the butterflies and moths at the Butterfly Farm, which is a really sweet thing to do with your other half, or book a private catamaran sail with dinner for two. You can go snorkeling at Baby Beach and go for a swim at the natural pools, try your hand at windsurfing together, and of course enjoy a relaxing spa treatment with the island’s natural Aloe products. Horse riding is really popular on Aruba too, so how about a private paradise tour around the island?

I was so lucky to win my trip to Aruba. It’s such a fun island, with a real family feel too. And the best part is, you can win a 7 night holiday there too thanks to Aruba Tourism. Head over to the competition page to enter before Friday 27th March and you could be sunning your buns on the beach just like this!PLEASE NOTE THIS COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED
